Up for consideration is fine original Oil painting on canvas from the Civil War
era demonstrating a young boy in a civil war uniform with dog on Pricket duty. The painting itself measures 11x15 inches with overall dimensions of 14 1/2 by 18 1/2 inches. The painting is tacked on it's period appropriate chamfered stretcher and sports it's original frame. The painting in my opinion is a charming Centenial piece probably done in and around 1866-1867 when the American Spirit was aroused during the Centenial or 100 year old birthday of the Country which was just after the Civil War. This painting is probably the original painting used by Colton Zahn and Roberts of NY in their efforts to produce lithographs in turn that were sold of this image. Likewise it looks exactly of the quality of painting that one sees in Victorian trade cards or illustrations that are well done yet just ever so slightly naive to add to it's Charm.
