Oil Painting 24" Beagle Study Listed Estate Maureen Riley MI Sport Dog Hunting

$ 2450.00
Up for consideration is a vintage/contemporary Oil Painting by Michigan
artist Maureen S. Riley (1963-2016). The painting measures 18 inches in height by 24 inches in length. This painting is done using acrylic on laminate wood board and depicts what I think looks like a couple of younger beagles in action. It may or may not be a study as such with focus being on the leading dog.  This piece is unsigned and unframed...but comes directly from her old Studio in Pinckney Michigan. As a versatile artist delving into sculpture also...I would imagine that capturing the form and action was more important in conveying meaning than the actual details...my take on it matters very little as always the painting speaks for itself...I like it.      Maureen had a Studio in Pinckney Michigan of which we were able to purchase the contents of the studio from sketches, Sculptures to studies..models maquettes as well as a multitude of painting and bronzes.   The artist traveled abroad and was interested in hunting/working dogs among as well general wildlife sculptures from otters to gorillas. Her art work is dispersed all over the planet with commissions both here an abroad. She displayed her artwork at various art shows as well as hunting exhibitions. Her works have also be photographed and featured as cover art for books as well as featured articles on working dogs both on farms in traditional manner as well as hunting both in the field and water. There is a book Terrierman and Terriers I and book II by John Broadhurst of which profiles a variety of dogs and their owners of which a portrait bronze grouping of Terriers Jumping Jack & Flash are featured on the cover..

Biography:

Maureen S. Riley recieved her MFA from Eastern University here in Michigan. She focused on Sculpture and Paintings...mostly of Wildlife.

Biography: as per askart Maureen Siobbhan Riley (20th century) was active/lived in United States.  Maureen Riley is known for Realist bronze sculpture, shooting sports themes.

Sculptor Maureen Siobhan Riley grew into the sporting life quite early, learning about gun dogs from her Granddad and about sculpture from his best friend, Walter Midener.

The shooting sports - sporting clays, horses, scuba diving, archery and fishing have played a big part in her life from childhood to the present - these country pursuits being the stuff of which her art is made.

Educated at Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan, Riley chose sculpture as a medium in which to express her experiences and was soon exhibiting and selling her work at shooting events.

Representational Bronze that focuses on a chance observation, a dynamic moment, these are the things that interest this sculptor. When creating a sculpture it is important to Maureen that she gets in front of her subject. Observation is key to creating that essence she strives for in her work.
