•NOTE ON CURATION
•
•As this is an original artifact, it is a true one-of-a-kind item. We have only one of these in existence. This curation will be retired once sold. Please select one mount colour and one frame size to finalize your design. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE HISTORICAL CONTEXT This historic photograph captures one of the most amazing manifestations of joy in world history: the liberation of Brussels. In the top image, British tanks rumbling through the city streets are mobbed by delighted crowds. Jubilant citizens, desperate for freedom after years of occupation, clambered up onto the vehicles for a ride wherever a foothold could be found, celebrating the arrival of the Allied forces. On September 3, 1944, Allied troops entered Belgium and reached the capital by evening. The bottom image shows the scene outside the Bourse de Commerce, where the people of Brussels cheered themselves hoarse. In a powerful and symbolic moment of victory, a portrait of Hitler was ceremoniously burned, signifying the end of a dark chapter for the city.
