Up for consideration is an interesting old Watercolor of beached sailboat by
listed Canadian France, UK artist Margaret Campbell Macpherson 1860-1931. The view of the piece from the front is 9 x 12 with overall dimensions being approximately 13 x 17 inches... The painting is signed, dated, dedicated and titled on the back...it goes as such "To Dade" "Maggie Campbell" "The Captains Sailboat" Les Cheaveux 1931". As many of you know artists at times used abbreviated names nicknames terms of endearment etc... ...when dedicating a work of art to a close friend or relative...many times with dedications there was no need to sign things formally as Margaret Campbell Macpherson in this instance the recipient of the gift probably referred to as "Maggie Campbell"..."Maggie" being an alternate name for Margaret. The signed "Campbell" portion matches the way she signed her named formally in larger more academic works. This is dedicated to "Dade or Dude" there is also a French reference "Les Cheveaux" along with the title of being "The Captains Sailboat"... I hope you didn't get lost in all the explaining...as I just wanted to clarify that things aren't always what you think when comparing signatures in the art world. Buyer pays shipping.
