Up for consideration is a interesting and very uncommon novelty painting with
inset clock doubling as the clock in the painting of York Minster. The overall dimensions of the larger back frame are 32.5 by 38.5 by 5 inches. This unique piece is a painting of York Minster with a round cutout allowing the inner clock to double as cathedral clock. The painting is unsigned. It shows a few people leaving the Cathedral. It is unsigned and for the most part a pretty decent painting. The frame swings open and one can gain entrance to the interior which houses the clock. The pendulum is present...when I locate a key I will test the mechanism. Please note the piece is fairly heavy. The back consists of 2 large backboards of which one board is warped and bows out away the piece at the bottom of the board. The clock is attached to this piece...and for this reason the face of the dial is not protruding through the hole as it should be. The frame is worn on the right side showing Gesso and some major losses to the corners. The frame opens, closes and locks into place.
