Up for consideration is an Antique 19th Century almost miniature sized
luminist oil painting on heavy paper board. The overall dimension of the thick deep Victorian frame is around 11 by 13.75 with the artwork being a about mere 4.38 inches wide by about 6.5 inches in height. The painting depicts a cloudy luminist landscape showing probably Chimborazo of Ecuador. It sports a pair of palm trees on the right as well as another tree to the left with what looks like a spectacular almost Biblically inspirational view of the Mountains...however most of that has been muted by aging...but one can see the brush strokes and the outline that there is something incredible that lies in wait. American artists were traveling to South America such as Luminist painter Frederic Edwin Church (1826-1900) as well as Martin Johnson Heade who was also well traveled...(1819-1904). For the most part artists who traveled as such did a variety of small quick studies to use later to complete larger exhibition paintings back in the studio. No doubt this is study. It is scribbled in pencil with the label over the writing "M.....Johnson..." please see photos. Looks like it says Mrs ...Johnson not sure. The painting frame etc...looks to be done about the 4th quarter of the 19th century. You just don't see wonderful 19th century paintings of this size subject matter and style very often... in good old important frame coming directly from some old estate and in fact when the stars align they can get pretty expensive. Anyways if it had gallery tags provenance with a readable signature it probably would have been on a different journey a long time ago. For that I am grateful. If you have questions or something to share please message me. Best Regards,JohnJohnnyCrystal Est. 1987
