Up for consideration is an exhibition size Oil Painting by listed and reverend
artist David (Axel) Ericson 1869-1946. The painting itself measures a whopping 29.5 by 43 inches in length with overall dimensions being about 38 by 51. It was probably done some time after the turn of the century. It is done on linen covered artist board. It really is one of his largest painting in the historical record but most importantly it is attractive moody and captures exactly what his mentors excelled in. It sports an "Alice & Win Dibble fine Custom Framing Shoreham Vermont" framing tag. Wait...it gets even better, with the slotted corner joints on the back helps identify this as an extremely rare hand carved wooden Newcomb Macklin Frame NY. The painting is sort of impressionistic leaning towards tonalism. It is very atmospheric in nature. Furthermore the setting is probably on the Seine in Paris. One can see the ship carrying passengers with the glow of lights and with a busy overpassing bridge. I think he really got this one right and no doubt should be an auction record for many reasons scale, subject matter, framing and overall appeal. I mean it is everything you could ask for and more in one work of Art. If you like this artist you will definitely have bragging rights as it is good. Biographical Information: Axel) David Eriksson (1869/70 - 1946). The painter David Eriksson was born in Motala, in Ostergotland, immigrating with his parents to Duluth in 1873. He left in 1887 to study at the Art Students League in New York, working under the American landscape and portrait painter William Merritt Chase.

In 1900 he moved to England to study with James McNeill Whistler, afterwards establishing studios in Paris, New York, and Provincetown during the 1920's through the 1940's. It looks as if this fellow was an illustrator also having done covers for Life Magazine during the Art Nouveau era. He returned to Duluth in 1946 where he taught at the Duluth Art Institute. His paintings are in the collections of the Tweed Museum, Duluth, and the American Swedish Institute, Minneapolis. If you have any questions or something to share please message me. The piece will probably be hand delivered.
