Up for consideration is an antique landscape painting by an obscure listed San
Francisco illustrative artist Laurence Beverly Haste (1884-1954). The painting is signed "L.Haste" in script in the lr corner and measures about 19 by 23 without the frame...the overall dimensions are around 23.5 by 27.5. It sports an original gallery tag from Geisler Bros. in Pittsburgh PA. Mr. Haste was an illustrator and is most noted for illustrations in the "Gold Rush" and "Covered Wagon Days". Laurence Beverly Haste was born in San Francisco on October 22, 1884. He studied at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute in that city, and at the Cooper Art Institute in New York. Returning to San Francisco, Haste was employed as an illustrator for Sunset and various East Coast magazines, and became known for his illustrations of covered wagon days and the Gold Rush. Haste died in Auburn, California on June 21, 1954. Haste. Unrestricted. Please credit California State Library.
