Warriors And Miadens The village is clustered into six neighbourhoods which can
be ranked by relative poverty starting with the wealthiest; there are poor families in each district, but some districts contain a higher proportion of better-off families than others: 1. Armi; 2. Papadiana; 3. Mesohori; 4. Perahori; 5. Meladiana; 6. Pateriana. Those names in italics indicate districts whose names are taken from the dominant surnames in that area. Villagers call the people in the western district of Armi captains, after a hero who lived there. Villagers of Mesohori are called Athenians because their district is at the hub of village life having most of the coffee shops. Heroes also act as distinguishing markers in Papadiana, Pateriana and also Perahori, which is the birthplace of Petromarkos who led the village in the final years of the war against the Turks.
