Up for consideration is an extremely rare late 40's early 50's historical covered Travel Wagon style travel trailer made of canvas masonite and metal. It has metal base frame with leaf spring suspension but is probably considered precode as there is no wiring, safety chains plumbing etc...my guess is that someone purchased plans from a magazine and built it in their garage. General dimensions of the trailer is width is 73" the total height from ground up is about 87" and the length of the trailer without the tongue is about 123" or just under 10 feet. Overall length including tongue is 154". The tongue is made of wood with iron support strapping. The metal tongue has been replaced with a modern hitch however I have the original tongue which is related to a bumper hitch manufactured in Detroit. Nothing was destroyed in this process. The rims tires are modern replacements used to get the trailer to my place. The piece cannot not be left outdoors it needs to be garage kept or under cover. This makes for a great display piece for car or trailer enthusiast, movie prop etc. It truly is unique. When one encounters an old survivor as such they usually only have one window etc...this one has plenty of window with screens and pop up roof hatch dry enamel sink lots of cupboard drawers cutting board and 2 long sort of benches on each side which probably had cushions. There are 3 reinforced pieces of plywood that fit exactly across that would turn it into a flat area to sleep on pack stuff in like a travel trailer. It is light meaning that an individual can pick up the tongue and pull the trailer around. It really is wonderful piece to look at. There was a local company making Covered Wagon Trailers prewar here in Michigan of which are not only rare but very expensive. I think this may have been modeled after something like that or may have been the inspiration behind this one. There are no makers marks id plates etc. I bought it because I had to have it. I thought maybe I would use as a prop at local antique shows or sales or just a prop for other business adventures... recently purchased an old British Sports Car that really needs to go indoors so I don't have the space for this.
