Stanišić. The composition shows a bird of paradise and red ginger blooms in a clear glass pitcher, set on a table alongside a rose-glass footed compote and a small hand-painted ceramic cup, with a soft-toned patterned tapestry hanging behind. Loose, confident washes with fine pencil underdrawing still visible — a genuine hand-painted work, not a print. Signed in ink lower right: Mih. Stanišić Provenance / ArtistAn original typed biography label remains taped to the paper dust cover on the reverse (photographed). Per that label, Stanišić trained as an architect in the former Yugoslavia, exhibited in Belgrade and Zemun where his work drew favourable critical notice, and emigrated to Canada in the 1960s. He worked as an architect-urbanist in the City of Montreal planning department and exhibited alongside other Serbian artists at St. Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church in Montreal. His style is described as refined realism. FramingProfessionally framed and triple-matted: cherry-toned outer moulding with black and gold inner fillets, linen-textured cream mat with a burgundy inner mat and gold bevel line. Glazed. Sealed brown paper backing intact with original hanging wire. ConditionGood vintage condition. Paper shows light natural age toning consistent with a work of this period. Frame has a few minor chips and scuffs to the outer wood edge (shown in close-up photos). Glass clean and intact, matting bright, backing sealed and untouched. Not examined out of frame.
