89th Doge Of Venice Oil Painting Bust Portrait of Marino Grimani 17th Cent. Old Master Aft Bassano

$ 33500.00
Up for consideration is an Important and Rare Old Masters Bust Portrait of
Marino Grimani who was the Doges of Venice from (1595-1605) Marino Grimani lived from (1532-1605) The painting itself without the frame measures 14.5 inches by 19.25 inches in height with overall height of the frame being 29.5 x 26 inches...theby about 4 inches deep and is spectacular...look at the back. The painting is rather dark but one can see the fantastic clothing worn by the Doges (Duke) from that time period. It is rather dark but with a filter on the camera and direct light one can see the clothing... The Stretcher is turning to dust in the upper right corner and needs attention...and of course if you are about 300 years of age this is normal wear...There is a slight buckle in the painting as one is unable to tighten the canvas without the repair...The painting has been laid down on canvas sometime in the 19th century so it is either a fragment of just the bust from a larger full portrait or this is it...so what I am saying is that the painting is probably older than the frame...and possibly the stretcher it has been transferred and affixed to another stretcher giving one the idea that the piece is 19th century when it is clearly not... There are a few Known portraits of Grimani however this particular version shows characteristics similar to that of Leandro Bassano's Full Portrait Circa 1595-96 found in the "The Portrait Timeline" in the year 1595 ...I have supplied that photo in the bottom right.

To purchase paintings as such with good provenance and attribution one must have fairly deep pockets...They can run easily from 45,000 into the 7 digits...Being a period portrait of the Doges of Venice, and of good quality there may be records and an avenue for pursuing a provenance in the future...thats what some people do for a living...and if one is good at it...well the world is your oyster. If you have any questions, concerns or something to share please message me. The painting has not been authenticated or sent to any major auction house for scholarly review. Buyer pays shipping. Provenance available to buyer.
