Ca. 1900 Antique oil painting Dog Portrait Terrier 8.25 x 5.75" Russell Jack

Up for consideration is an incredible Ca. 1920 painting of probably a Jack Russell Terrier in resting position. The painting measures about 5.75 inches by 8.25 inches and is set a stylish contemporary frame. The dimensions are not exact standard so it's possible it may be English in origins.  There looks to be a mottled signature in the lower right and some animal skethes in pencil on verso. This painting is absolutely charming once you look at it you get pulled into the scene and you can't escape it just keeps getting better as time passes. The painting was done in a time when artists simply painted dog portraits straight forward quarter bust and or side profiles with the emphasis being the face...you know much like humans but this artist really captured something special as these dogs are notoriously high energy so to actual depict this fiesty animal in a resting position not facing the artist really opens a door into a different world. I think it is remarkable it really sets the tone and one at ease...secondly it is second to none the coat each brushstroke is magnificent...this looks to be a first or second tier artist. The quality techinque and overall feel is magical.
