4 Pink Opalescent Hobnail Ruffled Round Dishes Bowlsl Underplates 6 3/8”

Lot of 4, unmarked, possibly Fenton Glass, pink opalescent round deep Plates or Bowls with white "opalescent" glass ruffled edges and matching white opalescent hobnails. Originally, these were likely underplates for soup or dessert bowls of the same pattern, although they are deep enough to be used as shallow bowls for serving berries or small salads. Each dish measures approximately 6 3/8” in diameter, 3 1/2" diameter in the center and 1 1 /8" high at the edges. Each plate weighs a hefty 9.3 oz each. This ruffled hobnail style was made popular in the 1940s by Fenton Glass of Ohio and the pink and white colorway was very popular during that early period for all types of glassware from dishes to vases and serving pieces. It is not unusual that these dishes are not marked as Fenton marked its glassware with stickers only until the 1970s and most stickers were removed when pieces were used and cleaned. Anchor Hocking and Westmoreland, also American glass producers, were also known for hobnail pieces during this period, although those pieces include markings to identify their makers. Due to the popularity of the pattern, hobnail pieces produced by various other companies from the1950s through the 1980s can be found, although the quality of the glass and the distinctiveness of the pattern may vary. This set is in very good condition, with no chips, cracks or breaks and vibrant color - see photos for details. Some plates have a lighter or darker pink- or white-coloring created during the manufacturing process and is typical of such glassware, especially in older pieces. A lovely set to compliment a place setting or to use to serve appetizers, snacks or sweets.
