Vintage, ALVIN silver plate, urn-shaped, footed Champagne or Ice Bucket with elaborately cast handles. Alvin Corporation, originally of New York, is known for its patent on high quality silver plate and sterling tableware. As a pioneer in the US silver manufacturing business in the late 19th century, Alvin dedicated itself to producing the finest silver and plate for table and holloware, becoming a dominant producer. In 1928, Gorham acquired Alvin and moved it to its headquarters in Providence, RI. Gorham continued to produce select sterling and silver plate designs from the Alvin designs archive, this ice bucket among them. This large bucket measures 9" in diameter across the top, 11" from side to side with the handles and is 10 1/$" high. Marked "Alvin E.P. P705" clearly on the bottom. In good condition with only faint tarnish (see photos for details). One small dent in the back side of the base - shown in last detail photo. Clean and ready to use. A nice traditional champagne bucket to round out a bar, to serve a bottle to toast your next celebration or makes a fabulous vase!
