Description
Antique, 1910s, Quadruple Silver Plate Condiment or Butter Dish by Van Bergh Silver Plate Co. of Rochester, New York. This lovely footed and handled oblong dish was created in the early 1900s style between art deco and art nouveau and contains touches of both with the floral inspired scroll on the hadles and feet of art nouveau and the quadrafoil laced pattern around the top of the deco style. The dish measures 10" wide, 2 3/8" wide and 2 1/4" high. Marked Van Bergh SP Cp Quadrupleplate with catalogue number 514 on the bottom. The Van Bergh Silver Plate Co. was established by Frederich and Maurice Van Bergh in 1892 in Rochester, NY, the only producer of its kind in the city which was full of metal working for lighting and other industries operating in the Northeast. This small producer later came up with a patent for the lighting industry and merged with Oneida in 1926 to continue producing its holloware. This condiment dish is in very good condition, with some tarnish/patina commensurate with age - see photos for details. A nice container for serving, using in a bath or office as a catchall or just as a charming decor item on a shelf for table.
