Antique Sterling Asparagus Sandwich Tongs Saart Bros "Simplicity" L Monogram

Antique, sterling silver, "Simplicity" pattern Asparagus or Sandwich Tongs with pierced blades made by Saart Brothers Silver under the Sterling Silver Manufacturing Co. name in 1910. Saart Brothers started their sterling and plated silver operations in 1905 in Attelboro, Mass, specializing in toilet and holloware. Starting in 1909, when the brothers acquired the dies of the Sterling Silver Manufacturing Co. of Providence, RI, Saart Bros. produced flatware as well. These tongs are marked accordingly and have a fancy cursive "L" engraved on one side of the handle. These tongs measure 5 1/2" long, 2 3/4" wide and 1" high and weighs 56 grams. These tongs are in very good condition with patina on the original finish and little wear to the details of the simple, yet elegant pattern with an Art Nouveau accent. Such tongs, though originally designed for specific use, make a versatile serving piece for a modern table, especially on a buffet or bar to serve an endless variety of small bites. Makes a nice gift.
