Art Nouveau Secession WFM German Silver Plate Butter Dish Dresser Box orig liner

Antique, Art Nouveau / Secession /Jugenstil silver plate Butter Dish or Dresser Box with original crystal liner made by WFM (Wurttembergischer Metallwarenfabrik) of Germany around 1900. The lovely piece is made of three parts: lid with handle, inside cut glass dish and footed base with handles. It measures 9" (22.7cm) wide by 5 1/4" (13.2cm) deep by 4 1/4" (10.7cm) high including lid and final. The inside glass dish measures 4 3/4" (12cm) by 3 1/4" (8.2cm) by 1 3/4" (4.3cm) high. Marked  on the bottom with the WMF mark as well as marks indicating Brittania as the base metal, the thickness of the silver plate and the oxidation treatment for the details. WMF, founded in 1880, through a merger of two metal work operators, is known for its special technique of silverplating which makes the silver coating twice as thick as any other method. This "Perfect Hard Silver plating" technique is exclusive to WMF. These pieces were produced of "Brittania" or "white" metal, a alloy of 92% tin, 6% antimony and 2% copper and them put through the special electroplating process. Art Nouveau designs were directly influenced by Albert Meyer, sculptor and designer, who lead the design department at the company from 1884 to 1914. This dish / box is in excellent condition as shown in photos. Clean and ready to use. An exceptional piece for a table, dresser, desk or for a collection.
