Description
Vintage 1970s, hand made, Chinese black lacquered wood table lamps with lovely coromandel raised relief scenes of women in traditional robes enjoying a tea garden. The black lacquer has a classic matte finish and the scenes are colored with gold leaf and paints in muted chinese reds, creams and blues through the coromandel lacquer technique in which the artist carves away the layers of lacquer to expose the layer of color for each specific detail area.. The substantial lamps sit on rectangular octagonal brass bases that are just slightly larger than the similar tall wood relief sections. Lamps include brass harps, gold Chinese medallion finials and pagoda-shaped, raw silk lamp shades as shown in photos. The lamps measure 27" high and 9" wide and 7" deep with shades that measure 11" high and 9 1/4" wide on the top and 18 1/4" on the bottom. Original wiring for incandescent E26 bulbs with black turn 3-way knobs and gold chord with 2-prong plugs (one with a cream plastic rotary switch as well). In very good condition with some slight edge damage and tarnish to the brass bases from age - see photos for details on condition. A substantial pair of table lamps with lovely patina, coloring and shape that adds character and a flair of Asian style or Chinoiserie to any space.
