Djokja or Yogya 800 Silver Ornate Repousse Footed Cigarette Box

Vintage 1950s, Djokja (Yogya) 800 Silver Ornate Repousse Footed Cigarette Box with classic south Asian floral motif on typical black ground. This striking box was made in on the island of Java, Indonesia and is a high quality example of the silver work done in the Yogyakarta area as souvenirs or for export to Europe and the Americas by this then Dutch colony. This box, in excellent condition, measures 4 11/16“ wide, 3 11/16“ deep and 1 15/16“ high (including the small bun feet). The bottom of the box bears a clear mark of its maker - Harto Suharo (1953/54) - which allows for dating of this piece. The hammered surface and bun feet on the bottom also validate the date of production. A lovely addition to a collection or as an elegant decorative piece for a coffee table or shelf vingnette or to use as a jewelry or trinket box.
