Vintage, DANSK Kobenstyle dark blue enamel, rectangular 11" Baking Pan or Casserole Dish. This dish measures 14" long (with the handle) or 11" on just the pan and 8" wide and 2" high and weighs a hefty 2 lbs 9 oz. This popular mid century modern was designed by Danish mid century designer, Jens Quistgaard and produced in Denmark starting in 1955. Dansk, a US company, was established in 1954 by the Neirenberg couple in Great Neck, NY after they had discovered the designs of Quistgaard at what is now the Danish Museum of Art & Design and built their business concept around items made in Denmark with his designs. The Kobenstyle line of enamel coated steel cookware came in 3 colors and was carried by Nieman Marcus and later other department stores. In 1965, the production of the Kobenstyle pans was moved to France and the blue color was added to the line. Dansk itself relocated to Mt. Kisco, NY in the mid-1960s. In the 1970s, the cookware became less popular and the line was sold in 1985, again in 1991 and 2009. It was reintroduced to the market with a new selection of colors in 2012 by Crate & Barrel. In 2020, Dansk was purchased by the private equity firm, Center Lane Partners, who also owns Lenox, Onieda and Anchor Hocking to mention a few. Dansk cookware is made in Thailand today, with some design changes, making the vintage ones easy to identify. This lovely blue pan with white interior is in good condition with some wear commensurate with age and use: slight chipping on the top edges and one chip on one bottom corner - see photos for details. The interior and the bottom are clean and smooth with minimal wear present. A great example of the well-loved Dansk Kobenstyle line, ready to use in the kitchen or add to a collection.
