Nymphenburg Whippet Greyhoung Dog White Porcelain Figurine Pierre J Meme

Pre-owned, ivory glazed porcelain Whippet or Italian Greyhound figurine by Nymphenburg Porzellan of Munich, Germany. This 20th century piece is based upon an 1843 work of Pierre Jules Meme, a french sculptor considered one of the pioneers of animal sculpture in the 19th century. Known for bronzes of horses and dogs in action, he was a prolific sculptor, who earned medals at the Salons of 1855 and 1861 and was a commercial success during his time. His designs were highly detailed and captured animals in their natural state, alone and with others. Nymphenburg porcelain has been known for the quality of its figural pieces, since its inception in 1747 and used designs from Meme and other artists to produce a number of pieces in its animal collections in the 19th and 20th centuries. This lovely Whippet in a backward glancing stance on a rectangular base stands 5 1/2" high and is 5" wide and 2 3/4" deep. It is in excellent condition - see photos for details. An elegant and highly detailed piece, charming and beautiful. A fine example of Nymphenburg porcelain that would charm any room or tablescape.
