Spanish Hand Tooled Leather Cigarette or Trinket Box

Vintage, mid century, hand tooled leather on wood Cigarette or Trinket Box with intricate baroque motifs made in Spain. The intricate tooling includes images of dual Lions around a heraldic shield (without a monogram or symbols) all surrounded with botanical motifs on the top and further scrolling and floral designs on the sides. The bottom is covered with a sheet of dark brown pebbled leather. All leather panels on the box are sealed together on the edges by thick lacing. The lid on this box opens on a brass piano-style narrow hinge. The interior is lined in blond, lacquered wood and includes a fluted cigarette rack on the lid, covered by a tooled leather strap with a bust of a Spanish soldier in the center. This box measures 2 5/8" high, 6 1/4" wide and 4 1/2" deep. The interior is 1 1/2" high, 5" wide and 3' deep. The box is in very good condition, with patina and wear commensurate with age - see photos for details. A very handsome box to add a interesting touch to a coffee table, for styling a shelf or holding small items on a desk.
