Vintage Abalone inlay brass mixed metal Parrot pin brooch Taxco

Lovely vintage parrot brooch made of mixed metals with abalone and mother of pearl inlay. A lovely example of the "Mixed Metals" work famously from the village of Taxco, Mexico, in the design of the Los Castillo family jewelry works. The metal used here appears to be brass although Taxco artisans are known to have used other alloys as well as gold and silver in such pieces. This unique piece from the 1970s is finely crafted with smooth surfaces and no gaps in the inlay. It is in very good condition with no missing pieces/damage - see photos. Brooch measures 2 1/2" long and 1 3/4" wide. A piece to give you a smile!
