Vintage Embossed Brass & Wood Magazine Newspaper Rack Holder Windmill Sailboats

Vintage, double compartment Magazine or Newspaper Rack with embossed brass overlay depicting a harbor town with sailboats and a large windmill. This holder is made of wood, overlayed with sheets of embossed and hammered brass by Peerage, England whose mark is imprinted in the hammered brass overlay on the bottom. The rack is substantial and measures 16 1/2" (41.8cm) wide by 9" (22.8cm) deep by 12"(30.4cm) high with side panels that measure 8 1/2" (21.5cm) on the top and taper to 5" (12.5cm) at the bottom. A handle of smooth shaped bar of brass is screwed to the top center edge and two other wider ones are screwed to the bottom of the rack as feet. The detailed embossed scenes on both sides of the rack is a classic old fashioned country landscape with a view of the working boats on the water, coming into a port to pick up flour from the mill for shipment. The scene is framed with a border of rope trimmed flower and leaf patterns. The sides and bottom are an embossed pebble-like surface with smooth brass trim that overlaps to create a seamless metal overlay. The interior is a smooth painted metal. This rack is structurally in very good condition with patina wear evident especially on the front and back brass panels and there is some corrosion on the bottom of the interior - see photos for details. Overall a charming and substantial piece for a reading nook or to hold kindling by a fireplace. Pockets are large enough to hold a laptop, books and pads of paper to serve as a WFH storage solution.
