Description
Vintage, in its original box, enamel on copper, hand made, limited edition Trinket or Jewelry Box by Kelvin Chen (see Notes below) with a stylized picture in enamel inspired by Gustav Klimt's "The Kiss". This lovely box is covered on the outside with solid green enamel on all sides and bottom and with speckled robins egg blue enamel on the interior faces. The copper metal edges are uncovered and embossed with a fine scrolling pattern and some have been given an antiqued finish. The lid is hinged with brass mounts and a bow-shaped clasp. The interior of the lid is marked "Kelvin Chen #064" - designating the number of the piece from the designer's collection. The box itself measures 3 1/2" wide by 2 5/8" deep by 1 1/4" high (when closed) and weighs 6.1 oz. The outer box is padded and lined in navy faux silk and covered in navy textured paper on the exterior. This exterior box measures 4" wide by 3" deep by 2 1/4" high (when closed). The enameled box is in very good vintage condition with just some minor tarnishing on the top brass rim. No chips, breaks or major wear otherwise. The exterior box has a slightly faded exterior lid and a tear in the paper covering on the bottom probably from the removal of a price tag from the bottom. The interior is in excellent condition. A lovely box to use on a night stand or vanity for pills or small pieces of jewelry or to use as a special presentation box to hold a gift of fine jewelry for a special event.

Notes:

Kelvin Chen" refers to a specific brand of highly collectible, hand-painted enamel-on-copper trinket boxes and other collectibles such as miniature teapots, that gained popularity in the late 1990s and early 2000s. These unique items were created as limited editions, reviving the traditional 17th-century technique of applying detailed enamel designs to a copper base in a 23-step manual process. While the brand carries the "Kelvin Chen" name, the pieces themselves were individually signed and numbered by the specific artisan in China who painted them, with designs often inspired by famous Western artists like Van Gogh and Monet, or various nature motifs. The actual person named Kelvin Chen associated with the original production line maintains a private, low public profile, with the name functioning primarily as the umbrella brand for these sought-after miniatures.
