Vintage German Wood Folk Art Carving Figure Oberammergau Lute Player 10”

Vintage, mid century, German Folk Art carved wood Figure of a musician playing a lute by sculptor Leonard Holdrich of Oberammergau, Bavaria. This had made figurine is done in the old world style of the Black Forest, depicting figures in attire typical of rural southern Germany before the turn of the century. The lute shown in the hands of the musician is in the style of the medieval stringed instrument. The figure, with an unlacquered finish, is sculpted into a pose of a musician playing casually outdoors and may be one of several such figures that were part of a larger scene. IT measures 10" tall, 4" deep and 2 3/4' wide. In very good condition with aging of the wood to a dark patina. Marked on the bottom with an inked stamp that shows the mark of the artist, his name and location. A lovely, well crafted figurine to enliven a shelf or table vignette.
