Vintage Large Ruege Octagonal 2 Tunes Inlay Wood Jewelry Music Box Lock & Key

Vintage, large octagonal Italian hand crafted inlaid wood Jewelry Music Box by Reuge with lock and key and brass lion paw feet. Reuge of Sainte Croix, Switzerland, is the industry standard for mechanical music boxes in the world. The company produces all aspects of its musical creations, from the boxes crafted by Italian cabinetmakers to the metal muisc box components built in their Swiss factory by master metal workers. The company also produces music boxes for outside producers of boxes and other decor items who add the musical components to their items due to the quality of the sound produced by the Reuge musical instruments. This box is one of Reuge's own items: SO894CFOOL as found in its vintage catalogue. The lid of this lovely box opens on a single hinge to reveal and interior lined with red velvet and a lift out tray with a ring holder down the center. The integrated music box, activated by a small pin that lifts when the lid is opened, plays 2 tunes/ 36 notes: Mozart Minuet and Boccherini Minuet (hear via video via link below). The box is constructed completely of various species of wood using old world marquetry techniques to realize the flower motifs and elaborate trims and topped with a durable high gloss lacquer. The exterior is further enhanced by the 8 cast brass lion feet on which it stands and the fancy brass lock and key. This box measures 11" (28.5cm) wide all around and 3 3/4" (9.5cm) high on the outside and 8" (20.2cm) by 8" (20.2cm) on the inside. In very good condition with some slight marks of wear as shown in photos and video below. Clean and ready to use. An impressive gift or addition to any closet or dresser to organize a nice collection of jewelry.
