Description

Vintage, signed black with blue-hued silver patterned Correia Glass 'Crescent Moon over Waves' paperweight designed in 1978. The 3" (7.6cm) sphere with flat bottom reads: Correia WSMSCS. 7.85.8. A beautiful and classic Correia design that was repeated in later years in shades of blue and in elongated round shapes. In very good condition, with no cracks or chips. A few wear marks are visible on the edges of the glossy bottom due to use and there are 2 tiny marks on one side in the mirror wave - one that is 1mm long and the other 4 small dots over a 5mm distance. These are shown in the 2 detailed, upclose photos of the sides. These are extremely difficult to see so we have done our best to photograph them for clarification. A wonderful and striking art glass accent for any WFH area or to enjoy as a graphic sculptural element.

Notes:

Steve Correia started his small art glass studio in 1973 after receiving his arts degree from Univeristy of Hawaii and had started his masters degree work at UCLA. Correia Art Glass is still located in Santa Monica, California and later became one of the largest studios working in the craft of freehand blowing. The artists at Correia Art Glass take great pride in expertly blending time-tested old-world glassblowing techniques and craftsmanship with the advantages offered by modern technology. His works quickly gained popularity within the art world when his sister Patricia Correia introduced them to upscale retailers and art museums. Correia's exquisitely beautiful art glass perfume bottles, vases, paperweights, bowls and lamps are now highly sought after by collectors around the world. Correia is one of the few internationally recognized glass artists with American roots. Correia Art Glass holds the distinction of having works in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institution, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Chrysler Museum of Art and the Corning Museum of Glass. In 1989, Correia started Correia Crystal to explore working with crystal and he handed the art glass operations to his 2 children who have since run the company and continued his glass making tradition.
