Vtg Hand Painted Folk Art Tile Portugal Outeiro Agueda Figure Blue Pink

Vintage, hand-painted Portuguese ceramic tile produced by the Outeiro Agueda. This tile, part of a series, shows a central figure of a man playing bagpipes in front of a country church with a garden and a floral border rendered in classic Agueda pink and blue on a white ground in the Agueda signature fleathery style. The tile measures 4" square and is 1/4" thick. Signed on back. In very good condition, with slight wear and original irregularities in the glaze shown on edges - see photos for details. Agueda, an old city in western Portugal, is known for its handicrafts of pottery, basket-weaving, knits and leather tooling which have been sold far and wide due to the city's location on the Vouga River and a stopover location for the route to the pilgrimage city of Santiago de Campostella. A nicely painted, cheerful tile to use as a coaster (put felt or cork on the back) or for tile project with others.
