Vtg MCM Bentwood Walnut Brass Serving Tray Large Round Ernest Sohn Creations

Vintage 19602, Ernest Sohn designed walnut bent plywood and brass serving tray. The round center molded bentwood section measures 18.5" in diameter and has handles crafted of fused circles of  2.5" on each side. In good condition, shows some small scratches on the wood and some wear on the metal rims but no chips or breaks - see photos for details on design and condition. This is a product of Ernest Sohn Creations, the independent brand Ernest Sohn established in 1951 after he had done freelane work for Glidden and Red Wing and worked for Rubel & Co. Sohn was a prolific designer and focused on bringing elegance to casual and formal dining and living in mixed-media items in metal, wood and ceramic. In the mid-50s, he given design awards by the MoMa for several of his works. This large but light-weight tray is a lovely example of Sohn's work. Great gift or part of serving up upcoming celebrations.
