Untitled Rural Homestead Landscape
Original Watercolour on Paper
An evocative original Canadian landscape painting by Ruth E. Mudge, depicting a solitary stone farmhouse standing beyond a weathered split-rail fence. Rendered in a restrained palette of sun-washed ochre, muted blue, soft grey and woodland brown, the composition captures the quiet atmosphere of the rural countryside during the transitional season between autumn and winter.
Mudge’s delicate handling of the sky and distant tree line contrasts beautifully with the richly textured stonework of the abandoned homestead. The open field and gently receding fence create a compelling sense of depth, drawing the viewer into a landscape that feels both familiar and quietly mysterious.
The artwork is signed “R. Mudge” at the lower right. The reverse retains an artist label reading “Ruth E. Mudge, Original Paintings” with a Campbellville, Ontario address, together with a gallery label from The Walls Treat Gallery, London, Ontario. These surviving labels provide attractive period provenance and strengthen the work’s connection to the Southern Ontario art community.
Professionally presented beneath glass with a wide neutral mat and a traditional dark brown and antique-gold frame.
