A Fine Meissen Porcelain Figural Group – “Gallant Couple at the Clavichord”

A beautiful and finely detailed Meissen porcelain figural group titled “Gallant Couple at the Clavichord.” This elegant piece features a charming scene with a lady seated at the clavichord wearing a yellow floral dress and violet jacket decorated with stars, accompanied by a gentleman standing behind her dressed in white with gilt accents. The figures are full of life and character, captured with exceptional craftsmanship.

The group is marked underneath with the blue underglaze Meissen crossed swords mark, indicating first quality. The model is numbered 186, with the former number 8528, and dates to around 1860. It is based on a design by Johann Joachim Kändler, one of Meissen’s most celebrated artists, who worked at the factory from 1731 to 1755 and was a key figure in European porcelain sculpture.

Condition: Excellent condition with no damage or restoration. There are a few original firing cracks to the base, typical of the period.
