The lens is based on the legendary Pentacon Six / Praktisix medium format Biometar 80mm F2.8, one of the most recognized standard lenses in the Carl Zeiss Jena medium format system. The Biometar 80mm was introduced as a standard lens for the Praktisix / Pentacon Six system and became one of the signature Carl Zeiss Jena lenses for medium format cameras. Its optical formula is known for a natural perspective, smooth falloff, classic Zeiss contrast, pleasant vintage color, and cinematic rendering. Because this lens was originally designed for medium format coverage, it covers full frame sensors with ease, giving a generous image circle and a clean usable field on Canon EF cinema and DSLR systems.

This lens has been fully cleaned, adjusted, aligned, re-lubricated, adapted, and precisely adjusted for Canon EF mount. The aperture has been de-clicked for smooth iris control during video recording, allowing gradual exposure changes without hard click stops. It is fitted with two follow focus gears: one on the focus ring and one on the aperture ring, making it practical for follow focus systems, cinema rigs, matte boxes, and controlled camera setups.

Glass is overall in good condition. It has been cleaned and aligned, free of fungus and serious scratches. There is very minor optical wear on the glass, typical for vintage lenses of this age, but it will not affect the final image. The body shows visible vintage cosmetic wear, paint marks, and signs of previous use, as shown in the photos. This wear is cosmetic and does not affect operation.
