Antique German Painting Wood Panel signed Aft. Hugo Kaufmann Taven

$ 9850.00
Up for consideration is a fine European Genre Tavern scene of a man and
young girl speaking. The painting is done on wood laminate and measuress about 8 by 9.5 inches. Overall dimensions are 13.25 by 15.25 inches. It is signed M.R. W....last name is indiscernible. It dates from about 1870's or 80's.

The Painting: The painting is a masterpiece and is really quite well done. I don't say that about every painting that I offer here on ebay. What is interesting is the young woman looks distracted by the viewer and is disengaged from the old fellow possibly a relative or intoxicated older fellow.  Look as he holds her in position with his hand at the wrist. It is almost as if she is being held against her will and be forced to listen...he through unconcerned and or unaware that she is really not so attentive or easily distracted by the viewer....ahh my interpretation is just that and probably tells more about the one analyzing the dynamics of the painting...there are some universal notions that most agree upon with some variation always based on ones own history...look for yourself and you decide...she looks to be slightly amused as she gazes at the viewer. In my opinion that is such an appealing aspect of this painting...the engagement of the viewer. Only an Old Master of the palette can get that right that is the magic that brings the spark of life from the girl depicted on a wood panel that has some paint arranged on it to the imagination of the viewer.
