Rosewood Zanzibar Trade Chest Dowry Campaign Travel Box Trunk 19th C Dutch Indo

$ 3450.00
Up for consideration is a fine early 19th Century Rosewood and Brass trade
travelling chest trunk or box. The piece is characterized as being a 6 board box made of solid rosewood with pierced brass inlaid and or applied decorative elements...It measures approximately 24 inches by 15 inches deep by about 21 inches in height with stand or 10 inches in height measuring without the stand. According to the historical record these appear to have a variety of names however they served the basic purpose and that is to take ones valuable objects spices metals etc...and lock them in there while travelling. It has incredibly strong hinges and indistructable brass handles. It also sports its original lock mechanism however there is no key. It has a wonderful overall patina that just begs you to keep looking at it. You know that good old world charm that just gets better every time  you look at it. As to be expected i it has some old issues relating to be a few hundred years of age. It sits at present on a custom made stand. According to my brief look through the historical record it can be called a Zanzibar, an Arab Chest, Trade Box, Dutch Colonial chest, Dutch Indo chest, Anglo Indo chest and of course there are probably a ton more names that I am not aware of.  It does have a look. Please read above for a description on the condition and view the photos as part of the description. If you have any questions or something to share...please message me. Buyer pays shipping.
