California/Illinois/Michigan artist Charles Schridde (1926-2011). The work of art depicts two young children praying at bedside the night before Christmas. Schridde really got this one right he really captures the moment suggesting a coming event... no gifts under the tree. Old discarded toys behind the door no longer capturing attention with intense focus of the toddlers in anticipation of a bountiful Christmas Morning. Please note: There is an overall saturation of blue coloration over the whole painting which adds significantly to the mood and realism of this nocturnal indoor setting. The photos don't quite capture the complete ambience "feel" or tonal emotion when viewing on the monitor then in real life...so what appears to be white sheets etc...is really light blue and one knows that it is evening...it is more monochrome than the photos show and far more pleasing and realistic in real life viewing. Overall dimensions are about 23.5 by 27 inches, with the artwork view of just the painting being 17 by 22 inches. Schridde worked as an Illustrative artist in California, Illinois and later transitioned to photography in Michigan. He painted a variety of subject matter in his illustrative days but specialized in Native Americans, Southwest Cowboy action scenes later on. Earlier in his career he worked as an illustrator and was quite successful he decided to move on and went into photography in Detroit. As you can in this painting he really had some skills.
