Up for consideration is an Illustration of a young girl being escorted by a few young men in a canoe. It is signed "Jos. L Kraemer" for listed Detroit Artist Joseph L. Kraemer (1872-1938). It measures 21 inches wide by 24 inches in height. This probably was a work for a short story or interior illustration in some boys Magazine. The girl seems to be in a dress whereas the men look to be possibly from the South Pacific. Kraemer worked in Detroit as an illustrator and cartoonist for the Detroit News. He is noted as "signing the beam" at The Scarab Club here in Detroit ... Likewise was the president, a very prestigious honor at the Scarab Club from (1931-35). The Scarab Club is still functioning today. According to archives He was noted as illustrating a historical adventure books in the 30's and made contributions to magazines with illustrations and the likewise and a variety of other tasks associated with accomplished illustrators of the time era. I have uncovered over 20 Kraemer illustrations in a portfolio from an old collectors estate recently so please keep an eye on my listing as you may be pleasantly surprised at the quality of work and talent of J.L.
