Antique Victorian Coal Scuttle Ash bin with orig shovel Tinder box 19th cent

$ 395.00
Up for consideration is an late 19th Century coal bin or ash scuttle that is
used around the fireplace...it measures with the handle of the shovel in place 22 inches it is about 12 inches wide with a depth of about 15 inches. Dont let the numbers fool you if you think it is small it a dramatic piece it commands attention and is highly decorative. The handle is either bronze or brass and finely cast with nice old patina...the feet have paw shaped skirts of which protect the inner iron wheels that allow it to be moved around with ease while using it around the mantel...remember this would have held some pretty heavy material so it was built like a tank...lastly it is just handsome. With great old gilt work that you just cant replicate...some drawbacks and or issues are that the one hinge although intact and easily supports the lid acts alone as the other hinge is detached...it is not noticable but if you look close you can see what I mean....secondly the inner tin removable container is rusted out...let me explain....the whole piece is a shell....and well constructed when you lift the lid there is a liner which is pulled out then you dump the contents of the liner out and put it back in...although present it is corroded. Like many of these great old pieces of the old world we dont use them daily they are more decorative accessories...this is one scores high and that area...there is also hope if one wants to use it one can simply repair the liner or reinforce with something...perhaps rivet some tin to patch it up...If you have any questions or something to share feel free to message me. Buyer pays shipping.
