This c. 1900 antique Staffordshire English ironstone Rabbitware 9 1/4" plate in
the Virginia Rose pattern features hand painted stick spatter floral motifs with a transferware border of rabbits and frogs.The center of the plate features vibrant, hand painted floral designs in cobalt blue and deep red along with soft green leaves and red vines. This collectible genre combines transfer printing for the animal border with traditional stick spatter (spongeware) techniques for the hand painted enamels. It is in beautiful antique condition showing age appropriate glaze crazing and an area with under-glaze discoloration/staining characteristic of 120-year-old ironstone.There is a hairline crack on the underside which extends to the rim. This is shown in last two pictures (same hairline crack just two different views).Please be sure to view all pictures along with using the zooming feature.
