My Dear Amanda
Yours of the 3rd at hand and was glad indeed. To hear from you and that
all were well ?? This leaves me well except a very bad cold. You say your
Papa wishes to know why I advised him to make the year end the 7th of May.
Well I don't know that there would be any advantage through the country
around here. Probably Christmas is a s good ads any time. My year ends the 7th
of
June and as I thought
(page 2)
it too late to get employment for the present year at that time and I was not
notified
whether I would remain another year or not until the 6th of June, I concluded
not to
give them another chance like that as another man was under bidding me 125
dollars and board himself if they would furnish a house for him this makes about
225 dollars difference
if we say nothing about the house as my board is 100 dollars. So I changed the
time
making the year end the first of May to give me a chance to get other employment
if they
tryed the same plan again
(page 3)
I know of no place that I can better myself yet so I may stay here again. I
have not seen or
heard from Bro A for some time and it is seldom that I have a chance to send a
message to him.
They were all well at Bro John's a few days ago. I cannot promise you to be
over at Christmas
as I have some little things to attend to and cannot be away but a day or two at
a time.
My love to all. As ever your Uncle + wellwisher J.H. Siddons
