0357----1899 ROCHESTER PA SEMI-CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION PHOTO BRIGHTON AVE This is an original BW photograph from the 1899 Semi-Centennial celebration in Rochester PA. Research indicates this photo was taken on Brighton Ave, along the parade route. We are assuming this photo was created from an original glass negative, perhaps from the 1920s-30s.    It is dated 1899, so we determined the event from local news clippings.   The photo depicts the Chas. W. Hurst Insurance Agency (which was on Brighton Ave) and perhaps an ice cream or drug store to the right. We also noticed two signs for the event in the background.  One to the left of the Hurst business is a partial view of centennial advertising sign with an illustration of William Marshall, Chief Marshal of the parade. The same image can be seen in one of the news clippings below. The photo measures 10 x 8 and is in Ex condition.  It was originally in a very old glass frame. The glass was heavily damaged so it was removed along with the original backing which reads: "To:  John Gordon, From: Arnold McMahon, 154 Monroe St., Rochester PA."  The photo also has a handstamp for the same Arnold McMahon.  As it turns out, John F. Gordon was a druggist and his establishment was also located on Brighton Ave.  There is an excellent chance this is the Gordon Drug Store the right of Hurst.
