0386----1836 HORATIO SEYMOUR UTICA NY (FUTURE GOV) LETTER SALE OF STOCKS This is an original letter penned by Henry Davis to future New York Governor Horatio Seymour of Utica NY. By this time Seymour was already a very well known Utica citizen, becoming Mayor in 1842. He served two terms as New York Governor, and lost to Ulysses Grant in the 1868 Presidential Election. Dated May 28, 1836, Davis seems puzzled as to why Seymour wants to part with his stocks. The letter is transcribed below and remains in good condition with original folds. Any research materials used (or presented here) are NOT included with the item listed for sale. Horatio Seymour Esq, Your enclosing J.N. Co scrip have this hour rec'd.  Will do what I can as to sale, and inform you forthwith.  Pray, tell me do you know anything unfavorable to the stock; I have always considered it much more than fancy.  Please advise me whether your willingness to sell arises from any fears of its ultimate value, or from what other ground if any than expressed in your letter.
