0532----1939 HEDGESVILLE WV GYER MASON LETTER IN WV PENITENTIARY MOUNDSVILLE Original 1939 letter concerning prisoner Clarence Gyer Mason, doing time in the West Virginia Penitentiary. The letter was written by Mason's wife (Eva Mae Keller) on Aug 18, 1939 and writing from Manassas VA to Gyer's Father "Clarence H. Mason" at home in Hedgesville, where the Mason family lived for many years. The content involves signing a deed, selling some items, and her planned trip to visit Gyer at Moundsville.   One noteworthy line involves a printing press, which was on the list of stolen goods accumulated by Gyer Mason.  I have added a few articles to present a background of Mason's original crime in 1938, his marriage to Eva also in 1938, and his obit in 1989.   In addition, the complete letter has been transcribed below.  Materials and images used in research are for review only, and NOT included with the item for sale in this listing. The letter is two-sided and in VG condition.  The original (stamp removed) envelope is included, which has postmarks of Manassas Va and Hedgesville W. Va.  Mrs. Mason also leaves Gyer's address at Moundsville:  818 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville W. Va.   Manassas Va Aug 18, 1939   Dear Mr. Mason: I shall sign the deed, you send it to me + I will send it on to Gyer or else you or someone else can send it to him.  I will go before a Notary Public down here or will I have to go before one in Martinsburg, but I suppose will be the same here, find out for me please what to do.  I will sign it for you.  Gyer address is – 818 Jefferson Ave, Moundsville W. Va.  My address is:  Manassas Va c/o J.H. Stauff  (over)  I’m glad you sold the farm, I suppose I have privilege of digging the flowers this Fall.  He says not to sell that printing press for it don’t have all the parts + that you would never find them.  I say make sale of furniture this Fall + the other things.  Will get Emmet + Maude to help us.  I mean the furniture up over the store room. I expect to leave here Monday nite at 12.32 from Washington + arrive out there Tues at 11.20 AM.  This is an awful trip, only ½ mile from State of Ohio + along the Ohio River.  I haven’t been at all well.  I don’t feel well enough to make the trip out there but I’m so homesick to see Gyer + he wants to see me so bad.  He is working on the farm out there + I’m so glad he is working will make time go faster for him, his back is giving him good bit of trouble, don’t mention a word to any body of me going out there for everyone is eager to get in my business.  Just send the deed to me + I shall sign it, be sure + have it marked where I’m to sign it.   I hope you are well.  Will be back sometime in Sept.  Sincerely,  Mrs. Gyer Mason. * * * * * * * *
