0538----1914 SPENCER LAKE ME TO HALL HOUSE BETHEL ME - ELSIE HALL MURDER CASE Original real photo postcard with scene of Spencer Lake in Maine. Sent from "Elsie" to Mrs. Dana Hall in Bethel Maine, September 1914. Dana Hall was a local farmer, married Alfaretta Clark, and eventually built a now historic home on Kilborn Street in Bethel.   This postcard was sent by their daughter-in-law "Elsie Gilbert" who married the Hall's son William (Billy). In the correspondence, Elsie states she is back to "table work" (waitress) at Spencer Lake.  She also mentions that husband "Bill" was out trapping.    Elsie would later become an important witness in the Nelson Bartley murder case of 1919.   Bartley was the proprietor of the Moose River House in Jackman ME.  Turns out Elsie served Bartley his last meal at this establishment before he was killed.     I suppose Elsie became a local celebrity for a short time. Her husband "Billy" Hall was a very well known woodsman and guide (see clipping below).  He also testified in the trial.     The couple divorced in 1921 and Billy would eventually move into the historic Hall House in Bethel. The postcard is in VG condition with original stamp affixed and Gerard Maine postmark.
