0816----1887 MR/MRS ORRIN HENRY LETTER -- BOWLING GREEN OH FIRE OF 1887 CONTENT Important and original letter of Bowling Green Ohio. Mary Henry is writing to her husband Orrin in August of 1887 describing what is now considered to be one of the worst fires in Bowling Green history. She gives details, mentions a few names such as Jennie Dull who was sick and had to be moved. (Jennie Dull is referred to in the news accounts below as having Typhoid) Those from Bowling Green are most likely familiar with Captain Orrin Henry. We have acquired a handful of Orrin Henry letters which will be listed soon. Bowling Green OH August 6th 1887 My Dear Husband. I will write a few lines this morning. We are all well but Georgia she is quite sick. The doctor said her spine was effected and she has never come around regular and that has something to do with it. I think she is pretty bad off. You have heard all about the fire before now. I thought at one time our house would go the yard was full of cinders as big as my hand. Stewart and Dwight got on top the house and wet the roof and watched it. (page 2) Jenny Dull was sick and they carried her up here she is here yet. They intend to move her to Black’s this evening if she is able to go. If ??? wasn't sick I would have them stay here. Pretty near everything they had burned up and no insurance. Pet I will close we'll write again soon. Wilbur hasn't been home since he went away. Mr. Boen? said he was getting along all right. Dwight is tending the little candy kitchen this week.
