1063----1827 Hillsborough NH ledger - President Franklin Pierce/Gov Benj Pierce

1063----1827 HILLSBOROUGH NH LEDGER - PRESIDENT FRANKLIN PIERCE/GOV BENJ PIERCE Rare original store ledger from the town of Hillsborough New Hampshire. Appears to cover the time period from Nov 1827 to Jan. 1828 and have not been able to determine the store owner or the keeper of this ledger. Amazing 24 pages with many, many names of the locals. I have pulled out 70 names that are listed alphabetically below, but there are many more names inside. I am guessing there are well over 300 entries crammed in the 24 pages. There are no covers so we are assuming this to be a partial ledger. Incredibly, we were able to find three entries pertaining to the well known Pierce family. It was a busy day in the store on New Years Eve, 1827. There is an entry for the account of "Hon. B. Pierce" and a few entries below that appears the name "Franklin Pierce" and they are appearing on the same page. This is most certainly Benjamin Pierce, and his son the future President. Benjamin Pierce would have been the sitting Governor of New Hampshire during the time this purchase was made. A second entry on Jan 7, 1828 reveals another purchase as "Hon. Benjamin Pierce" which includes molasses and tea. As noted earlier, there are many more names inside, most likely well known to those familiar with the town of Hillsborough. Several names appear multiple times. There are several entries with the title "Capt." so we are assuming these men were sea captains.  Scroll down to view all the images below the surname list. The ledger is approx 15 x 6 and in good condition considering it's age. There are a few discolored areas and some corner wear. This ledger was recently acquired online from an ebay publication dealer. Absolutely NO returns on original documents or photos.
