Description
Amazing lot of 9 original photos of the old Cribbs Home for the Aged of
Conneautville PA.
These photos were rescued from a store closing in Western PA.
Six of the 9 photos were created by well known Meadville PA photographer H.E.
Ellsworth.
Two are unmarked but we are sure these are also the work of Ellsworth.
One lone photograph (very similar to the others) was done by another
well known photographer named "Skillen" of Sharpsville PA.
These images reveal several of the residents posing in front of the home,
as well in the yard with structures in the background.
There are also several outstanding country and lake scenes with perhaps other
farms in the distance.
I have scanned all the images below and have included several interesting
closeups.
Some of our favorites were the Model-T's on the side of the home,
and a sign along the front of the home which reads "Danger Run Slow"
referring to the new automobile fad.
While researching online, we came across three of the same images we have in
this collection (see below).
The Cribbs Home opened in 1919 to 12 residents.
Later closing, sold, and reopened as it stands today as a fine elder care
facility.
Each photo is described in detail below, having been numbered from 1 to 9.
We are dating these photos at circa 1922,
According to the 1920 census, there are 17 "inmates" (yes inmates),
and one matron named Carrie Graves.
The Superintendent listed is Glenn Moyer, and his wife Edith.
Four of the 17 are two married couples which we believe to be in the photos,
George + Edith Simmons and Alexander + Elizabeth Drake.
We were also able to determine from obituaries, that several in the census,
later passed away in the home, so they are definitely in the photos.
All the cabinet photos measure approx 13-1/2 x 11-1/2 and remain in VG
condition.
One photo has a ragged edge at the bottom, but the subject is not affected.
Another has a gouge at the bottom, which also does not affect.
Absolutely NO returns on original photos or documents.
PLEASE NOTE: ONLY the photos are included in this sale.
Any research or other materials are NOT included.
Please keep in mind, the original photos are much more in focus
than we can present below. In addition, the photos also lose clarity
when they are scanned for closeup viewing.
