Massive pair 19th C Louis XVI French Bronze Chenets Cherubs Satyr Putti 23"

$ 14500.00
Up for consideration is a fine pair of mid to late 19th Century French Louis XVI
Chenets. They stand an incredible 23.5 inches in height by 12 inches in length and weigh just over 40 pounds each. These sculpted pieces are somewhat complex in design with various significant motifs that were popular at that time. The designer was able to pull this off because of the shear scale of the Chenets.  On the outide edges there is a large "Satyr" or "Bachuus" masks at the side of the bases measure a whopping 8 inches in height. The Cherubs are about the size of a newborn Child and both and are of incredible in quality and casting...most importantly the faces eyes and hands etc...are proportional and in the last instance believable . They both are holding a cornucopia of floral fruit and nut embellishments in the form of true early Louis XVI finely cast Chenets. However there is some wear at the base of the twisted horns which may confuse the novice into believing that the casting is inconsistent but being polished and moved about does wear on some areas.   On the front there are differing inset cast medallions facing each other. The highlight of the pair is a large pair of reclining Cherubs or Putti holding elongated late 18th century style Cornucopias or horns of plenty.

In summary these are about as good as they get for 19th Century French Chenets in the Louis XVI form. They are large in scale with wonderful full sized reclining cherubs...Likewise the quality is there. Mind you one must realize that these are not at the top of the food chain when it comes to French Chenets...when talking truly period pieces that come with good provenance and done by noted sculptors can fetch $150,000+ However these are of nice size...very fine quality and not a common form readily found in the market or in the historical record.   Please see photos as part of the description.  If you have any questions, concerns or something to share feel free to message me.
