Vintage, Murano, blue faceted glass AshTtray "DIAMANTE" designed by Carlo Nason in the 1980s. (see below for details on Carlo Nason) This gorgeous piece, designed to mimic a cut diamond or aquamarine measures 3 3/4" wide at its widest points across and stands 1" high. The facets are composed of overlapping triangles and have small indentations on the corners to hold a cigarette. Clarity of the glass, precision of the cuts, polish of the surfaces, edges and corners attest to the high quality of the Murano glass used in this designer piece. In excellent condition. A fabulous addition to your home decor or makes a stunning gift. So lovely that it can stand alone as a sculptural accent or ring bowl and not just an ash tray!
Designer Carlo Nason, born in Murano in 1935, comes from one of the oldest families of glassmakers on the island. He grew up attending glass masters working the family furnaces and started working with glass, experimenting with designs and techniques. At the beginning of his career in the 1960s, he collaborated with the family glass factory, V. Nason & C , and created some pieces that are now in the collection of the Corning Museum of Glass, Corning New York. Between 1965 and 1980 he worked with the A.V. Mazzega di Murano, whose products, now out of production, are still sold in international auctions. He has collaborated with all the most important companies in Murano: Vetreria Vistosi, Vetreria Carlo Moretti , Vetreria Livio Seguso, the De Majo glassworks. He also collaborated with the Firme Di Vetro Group of Salzano and Leucos in Salzano. Having studied other forms of art and craft, he also designed ski shoes for Garmont, ceramics for Baldelli and worked on graphics for various companies and produced an extensive photography portfolio. His works can be found in collections of museums and numerous private collections around the world.
Carlo Nason appropriates the most refined techniques of glass art and, demonstrating an innovative design attitude, uses them in the field of design, creating a skilful combination of technique and high craftsmanship, tradition and innovation.
